If you’re going to wear an award gown…
Ok, so I’d like to say that the Golden Globe dresses were pretty tame this year. This is the first awards show in years that you could’ve dug out a prom dress from Debbie Gibson’s closet and fit in. I mean, I am no fashion authority. There are no magazines that I currently edit. I am merely a woman who believes that there are 5 basics to looking fabulous.
1. Wear black. (That’s my life motto, but if you’re a color fan, that’s cool. I am of the firm belief that everyone looks wonderful in black.)
2. Do not (no matter if Prada and couture runway shows say its okay) wear navy with black. There’s a reason it was outlawed until now. Designers are trying to come up with new ideas, but it’s just plain wrong. As an added bonus, if you don’t live in Europe or some fashion forward place, people may think you just picked the wrong sweater from your dark closet.
3. Know and dress for your size.
4. Know the key items that no (okay, very few) people look good in: tulip skirts, bubble hems (yes, you think you look adorable…but your hips look bigger than they are and how can that be a good thing?), floral pants (must I even explain?), harem pants (another glorious failure trend like black and navy), gauchos (eeks), bras with clear straps (please let me introduce you to the strapless bra…), crocs (unless you are 10 and under or a gardener) and lastly, kitten heels (sure, everything is cuter in minature, but these heels make you look like the rest of the heel was nabbed by subway grate.)
5. Wear something that makes you look in the mirror and think ‘Wow, that’s the best that I can look’. Don’t leave the house wondering if you look fat, inadequate, overdressed, underdressed, or frumpy.
Back to the globes. January Jones looks amazing! This is black without being boring. The grosgrain ribbon ties the whole ensemble together.
My one question is, why was purple the color du jour? Hm.
I’ve made it a resolution to wear only black this year. I may either look like I’m funeral ready, or chic. Here goes.
i’ll post a pic everyday when i get the nerve….
